    Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port

The extraordinary quality of the wines from the Malvedos vineyard is such that in Vintage declarations these wines provide the main structure of Graham's classic Vintage Ports. In most interim years, the wines from Malvedos merit bottling as a Single Quinta Vintage Port: Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port.

Graham's Malvedos Vintage Ports have won an astonishing collection of awards at the world's major international wine competitions over recent years, with 14 Gold medals over the last two decades, clearly outperforming all other Quinta Vintage Ports.

Graham's 2004 Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port has a black/purple colour. A lovely complex nose with excellent sweet and rich fruit aromas such as black cherry, black currant and blackberry. On the palate it is packed with solid, structured, rich and intense black fruit flavours and an admirably long finish.

A fabulous way to end a lunch or dinner, Graham's 2004 Quinta dos Malvedos pairs wonderfully with chocolate desserts, such as chocolate mousse, but it can also be enjoyed on its own, providing a memorable moment in the company of good friends.

      Quinta dos Malvedos 2012

Graham’s winemakers made small quantities of wine of very high quality in the early autumn of 2012. Graham’s has released ‘en primeur’ only 60 double magnum bottles (3 litre) of the 2012 Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port. The remaining 75cl bottles will not be released onto the market until 2020 at the earliest.

The yields in the vineyards at Malvedos were more than 30% lower than many other vineyards in the Douro Valley in 2012. The average yield on the property was just 650g of fruit per vine. All Graham’s Vintage Ports are trodden in lagares at the Quinta’s small, dedicated winery, below the estate house, adjacent to the river.

The wine has a delightfully elegant floral nose, typical of Touriga Franca in the best years. The wine also has aromas of red cherries, liquorice, mint, bergamot and orange blossom, the result of the high proportion of ripe Touriga Nacional in the wine. There is also a hint of chocolate from the relatively high proportion of Tinta Amarela. On the palate there is very fine purity of fruit and a velvety texture. This wine has ripe tannins and a well-structured minerality, combined with fresh acidity showing through on the well-defined finish.

The average yield at Malvedos in 2012 was just 650g per vine. The tremendous aromatic intensity and formidable structure of the Quinta dos Malvedos 2012 Vintage Port is a direct result of this tiny but immensely concentrated crop.
      Henry Shotton, Graham’s Vintage Winemaker

        Quinta dos Malvedos 1965

To mark the 125th anniversary of the purchase of the iconic Quinta dos Malvedos, Graham’s is now releasing the last 400 bottles (75cl) of the quinta’s 50 year old 1965 Vintage Port.

Deep garnet in colour, on the nose this wine is perfumed and soft with a hint of rose petals, tea, and a touch of mint. On the palate it is soft and mellow with fine tannins and a luscious, long lasting finish.

Inspired by the understated design of the early 20th century Graham’s Vintage Port labels, the last 400 bottles of the Quinta dos Malvedos 1965 Vintage Port are now being offered in handcrafted wooden cases bearing the original trademark of the quinta, registered in 1890. This rare wine has been matured for 50 years in the Graham’s 1890 Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, and is a testament to the history of one of the Douro’s greatest quintas.

          Quinta dos Malvedos 2005

The consistency of quality of the wines from the Malvedos vineyard is such that in Vintage declarations they form the principal component of Graham’s classic Vintage Ports. In most intervening years, the wines from Malvedos merit bottling as standalone wines from a single vineyard: Graham’s Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port. . As can often happen in the Douro, timely rain following a hot and dry summer can make all the difference and this is what happened in 2005 — one of the driest years ever recorded in the region, with a rainfall deficit of between 60% and 70% (compared to the 30-year average).
